Choosing Shopping Cart Systems

Posted by admin in Ecommerce

Shopping cart systems are a way for e commerce websites to make money. Simply, instead of waiting for a customer to send in payment, which by the time they do they have changed their minds. A shopping cart system enables the online business owner to accept funds through their website. Most of them now feature credit card systems to allow individuals to pay with credit or even debt cards. But, how should you choose a shopping cart system?

Here are some helpful things to consider about choosing a shopping cart system:

One of the most important aspects of the shopping cart is that it needs to be easy to use. In order for this to happen, the software needs to be user friendly on the terms of your consumer, not you. They want simplicity and they want it to be fast and painless. The shopping cart system that you choose needs to meet their needs and demands. If they can’t figure it out, they will likely move on to another company that is simpler to deal with.

The shopping cart systems that you consider can be free ones. There are some great options out there that are completely free to use. But, that doesn’t mean they are the right one for you because they are free. Take a closer look to make sure these free systems are actually good enough for you.

You will need to insure that the shopping cart systems that you choose are secure and that they are programmed in correctly. Again, if you can do these things, you will keep your customer’s happy.

You may also want to look at shopping cart systems that allow consumers to bank their information or to come back later to finish their order. You may want something that has the ability to ask security questions to insure again the safety of the customer.

An online store is a 24 hour active revenue machine, it should accurately
display and describe your products and services in a professional manner to give
you the best opportunity for each and every sale. Your success depends on this.

Now, don’t get the wrong idea, a site design does not need to be full flash,
loads of custom images and special entry pages, look at Google, they have a nice
logo and a clean understandable landing page. Depending on your target market,
you may only need text to make your sales, but the text still needs to be
clearly layed out and understandable.
It’s always best to carefully study and consider the designer for your
website. Make sure he/she is prepared to show you many examples and ask many
questions about your needs. They should ask for example sites that you like and
work to your budget, not up-sell you special Flash graphics.
If you are working with an ecommerce website shopping
cart then it’s advisable that you keep all design services and
software technology within the one company as it’s important for the designer to
know the capabilities of the shopping cart software they need to work on.

Design layout.

Layout of a website is extremely important to the ease of navigation for your
customers. Their product of choice should only be within 3 clicks from the home
page. Be sure to to have an easy to use category menu and obvious product titles
with good descriptions directly below. Always aim to cross sell in your product
pages with thumbnails of related items.

If you are using custom graphics or flash design, make sure this is kelp to a
minimum in a shopping cart and only serves as a
quick impressive display of professionalism rather than showing off how much money you have.
Your design needs to look professional for one important reason. If your site
looks like it was built yesterday and could easily be taken down today because
you obviously don’t care about the look of your business, then why would your
customers be comfortable in spending money with you. Trust level is a big reason
for customers parting with their hard earned money.

Remember, you only have one chance to make a first impression. If a visitor
comes to your site and doesn’t like what they see, their gone and there’s a good
chance they’ll never come back.

Fraud is a huge issue when it comes to the Internet, and if you operate an e-commerce website then it should be one of your main concerns. Your potential customers will not want to buy from you unless they feel 100% certain that their information is encrypted and secure and that their credit card numbers will not be stolen in the order process. There are several things you can do to protect your website against fraud.

Tip #1 Fraud Detection Service

This type of service will help ensure the person entering the credit card information is indeed the owner of the credit card, although this service does not completely eliminate risk altogether. For instance, fraud detection service will ask for an address verification to compare the address on file with the credit card company. A match will let you continue, and if there is not a match it will not. However, addresses of individuals can be found online as well, so a determined thief can get past this mechanism. Although, it is still worthwhile to have in place because it will reduce fraud.

Tip #2 Credit Card Verification Codes

These are the three numbers on the back of your card or the four numbers on front of your American Express card. When a website asks for these numbers you will have to look at the card to enter the information. So, for someone to engage in fraud they will not only have to have your credit card numbers but also your credit card. This cuts down on fraud because most of the time credit card numbers are stolen online and not the actual card. So, when this information is asked for generally only an individual with the credit card can enter it. While someone can still steal your credit card and shop online, this is less likely to happen because you will recognize the card as missing and cancel it. On the other hand, if your credit card number is stolen you will not necessarily know that until you receive a statement.

Tip #3 Website Design

In general, fraud protection services are important to have, but these should be paired with a website design that also resists fraud and fraudulent activities. Companies will have to spend extra money to ensure fraud is not taking place, but in the long run it will save them money and protect their customers, which is what is most important. Websites should be designed with the latest technology to resist hackers and protect the integrity of the website. Great care should be taken to avoid problems at all costs.

The most important thing you can do is to learn about Internet fraud and ways to protect yourself, your website, and your customers, before you ever go online. That way, you will be better prepared to fight fraud online.
